The South African Indian Council Act 31 of 1968 intends:

  • to enable the Government better to promote the interests of the Indian population of the Republic and for that purpose to establish a South African Indian Council,
  • to determine its powers, functions and duties, and
  • to provide for matters incidental thereto.
