Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009

The Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009 aims:

• to regulate the business of dealers in second-hand goods and pawnbrokers, in order to combat trade in stolen goods;
• to promote ethical standards in the second-hand goods trade; and
• to provide for matters connected therewith.

• 10 December 2011, definition of 'controlled metal', Sections 16 to 20, 22, 25, 32 and Schedule 2 (Gazette 34837 of 9 December 2011)
• 16 January 2012, maximum period of imprisonment (Gazette 34942 of 13 January 2012)
• 30 April 2012, all other sections (Gazette 35270 of 20 April 2012)
