Environment Conservation Act Extension Act, 1996 (No. 100 of 1996)
Act
- to extend the application of the Environment Conservation Act, 1989, to that area of the Republic which constituted national territories of certain former states and self-governing entities; and
- to provide for matters connected therewith.

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:-
Definitions
1. In this Act, unless the context otherwise indicates-
"affected area" means the national territory of the former Transkei, Bophuthatswana, Venda and Ciskei, and the areas in respect of which the former self-governing territories of Gazankulu, KaNgwane, KwaNdebele, KwaZulu, Lebowa and Qwaqwa were established;
"Minister" means the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism;
"the Act" means the Environment Conservation Act, 1989 (Act No; 73 of 1989).
Extension of Act 73 of 1989
2. The application of the Act, and all amendments thereof, is hereby extended to the affected area.
Extension of regulations and notices to affected area
3. The application of all regulations and notices made or issued by the Minister in terms of the Act is hereby extended to the affected area.
Conflict of provisions
4. In the case of any conflict between the provisions of the Act, regulations or notices referred to in sections 2 and 3, and the provisions of any law, regulation, notice or other measure having the force of law which applied in the affected area immediately prior to the commencement of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1993 (Act No. 200 of 1993), the provisions of the Act, and the firstmentioned regulations and notices shall prevail.
Short title
5. This Act shall be called the Environment Conservation Act Extension Act, 1996.
