Diamonds Amendment Act, 1988 (No. 28 of 1988)

Act

  • to amend the Diamonds Act, 1986, so as
  • to substitute the definition of "Minister"; and
  • to alter the constitution of the South African Diamond Board.

BE IT ENACTED by the State President and the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:-

Amendment of section 1 of Act 56 of 1986

1. Section 1 of the Diamonds Act, 1986, is hereby amended by the substitution for the definition of "Minister" of the following definition:
'"Minister' means the Minister of [Mineral and Energy Affairs] Economic Affairs and Technology;".

Amendment of section 5 of Act 56 of 1986

2. Section 5 of the Diamonds Act, 1986, is hereby amended-

(a) by the substitution for paragraph (e) of subsection (1) of the following paragraph:

"(e) [one member of the management board of the Diamond Producers' Association, other than a member In the service of the State or appointed by It, nominated by such Association] two persons who are either producers or in the opinion of the Mimster are capable of representing the producers;"; and

(b) by the deletion of paragraph (f) of subsection (1).

Short title

3. This Act shall be called the Diamonds Amendment Act, 1988.
