102 of 1997

The Correctional Services Amendment Act 102 of 1997 intends:

  • to amend the Correctional Services Act, 1959, so as to define or delete certain expressions;
  • to empower the Minister to contract out prisons to private contractors;
  • to make provision for the establishment of a Judicial Inspectorate;
  • to provide for the appointment of an Inspecting Judge and Independent Prison Visitors;
  • to empower the Inspecting Judge to establish Visitors' Committees;
  • to provide for an internal service evaluation; and
  • to provide for matters connected therewith
