Constitution of the Senate Act, 1920 [No. 9 of 1920]

Act

to remove doubts as to the date of the expiry of the period for the present constitution of the Senate.

Whereas doubts have arisen as to the date of the expiry of the period for the present comtitution of the Senate.

And whereas it is expedient to remove such doubts.

Be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate and the House of Assembly of the Union of South Africa, as follows:-

Date of expiry of period of constitution of Senate.

The period of ten years provided for the constitution of the Senate by section twenty-four of the South Africa Act, 1909 and referred at the commencement of section twenty-five of that Act is hereby declared to expire on the thirty-first day of October, 1920.

Term of office of certain Senators extended.

The term of office of any Senator who would but for the passing of this Act have vacated his seat owing to effluxion of time before the thirty-first day of October, 1920, is hereby extended to that date.

Short title.

This Act may be cited for all purposes as the Constitution of the Senate Act, 1920.
