Unauthorised Post Office Amendment Act, 1997 (No. 40 of 1997)

BE IT EXACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa as follows:-

Authorisation of certain unauthorised expenditure from Post Office Fund

1. (1) Expenditure to the amount of R77 832,95 incurred by the Department of Communications (previously the Department of Posts and Telecommunications) during the period 1 April to 5 June 1993 in respect of a former Postmaster General appointed as Regulator: SA Telecommunication during the period 1 April to 5 June 1993 without legal authorisation for such a post, is hereby authorised, and the Post Office Fund is hereby charged with the expenditure in question.

(2) The expenditure referred to in subsection (1) is further described in paragraph 4(3), on page 4 of the Report of the Auditor-General on the Accounts of the Department of Communications for 1993/94 [RP 175/95], which has been submitted to Parliament, and in the Fourth Report of the Joint Standing Committee on Public Accounts, 1996.

Short title

2. This Act shall be called the Unauthorised Post Office Expenditure Act, 1997.
