The repealed Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependency Act 20 of 1992 intended:

  • to provide for
  • the establishment of a Drug Advisory Board;
  • the establishment of programmes for the prevention and treatment of drug dependency;
  • the establishment of treatment centres and hostels;
  • the registration of institutions as treatment centres and hostels;
  • the committal of certain persons to and their detention, treatment and training in such treatment centres or registered treatment centres; and
  • incidental matters.

  • 26 February 1993, Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5 (Gazette 14600 of 26 February )
  • 30 April 1993 (Gazette 14759 of 30 April 1993)
