61 of 2003

The National Health Act 61 of 2003 intends:

  • to provide a framework for a structured uniform health system within the Republic, taking into account the obligations imposed by the Constitution and other laws on the national, provincial and local governments with regard to health services; and
  • to provide for matters connected therewith.

Commencement

  • 2 May 2005, Preamble, Schedule (Definitions), Chapters 1, 2 (except Section 11), 3 to 5, 7 (except Sections 50 and 51), 9 (except Section 71), 10 (except Sections 77, 78, 79 and 83), 11 and 12 (including Section 93(1) but only to the extent that it repeals certain sections (Gazette 27503 of 18 April 2005)
  • 30 June 2008, Section 53 (Gazette 31187 of 27 June 2008)
  • 17 May 2010, Sections 55, 56 and 68; and 93(1) to the extent that the section repeals section 23(b) of Act 65 of 1983 (Gazette 33187 of 14 May 2010)
  • 1 March 2012, Sections 11, 35, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 50, 51, 54, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 71 and 93 (Gazette 35081 of 27 February 2012)
