Marriage Act, Extension Act, 1997 (No. 50 of 1997)

• to extend the operation of the Marriage Act, 1961, to the whole of South Africa; and
• to make provision for matters connected therewith.

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows—

Extension of operation of Marriage Act to whole of South Africa

1.(1) The operation of the provisions of the Marriage Act, 1961 (Act No. 25 of 1961), is hereby extended to the whole of South Africa.

(2) The provisions of subsection (1) shall be deemed to have come into operation on 27 April 1994.

Short title

2. This Act shall be called the Marriage Act, Extension Act 1997.
