The Legal Aid Amendment Act 47 of 1989 intends:

  • to amend the Legal Aid Act, 1969 [repealed in March 2015], so as
  • to provide that the Legal Aid Board may recover costs in a dispute in respect of which it rendered legal aid, but which is later settled, and may fix conditions regarding such right of recovery;
  • to amend certain designations; and
  • to empower certain members of the board to designate any person who is not an officer in their departments or offices to represent them at a meeting of the board; and
  • to provide for incidental matters.
