The Correctional Services Amendment Act 102 of 1997 intends:
- to amend the Correctional Services Act, 1959, so as to define or delete certain expressions;
- to empower the Minister to contract out prisons to private contractors;
- to make provision for the establishment of a Judicial Inspectorate;
- to provide for the appointment of an Inspecting Judge and Independent Prison Visitors;
- to empower the Inspecting Judge to establish Visitors' Committees;
- to provide for an internal service evaluation; and
- to provide for matters connected therewith
