Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs to handover the provincial resorts and reserves project at Sandveld Nature reserve in Hoopstad

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson will, on 28 August 2014, hand over the Free State Provincial Resorts and Reserves Projects at Sandveld Nature Reserve in Hoopstad, within the jurisdiction of Tswelopele Local Municipality in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality.

The department through its Environmental Protection and Infrastructure Programme (EPIP) is funding the implementation of environmental projects in the Free State Province using labour intensive methods as per the requirements of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), aiming towards environmental preservation coupled with job creation.

Five projects to the value of R115 100 000 were implemented within nature reserves in the Free State Province totaling 877 work opportunities created. The projects include Sandveld Nature Reserve, Maria Moroka Resort and Reserve, Sterkfontein Resort and Reserve, Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve and Tussen die Rivier Resort and Reserve.
