Community and stakeholders engage to stop gender based violence in Diepsloot

The plight of children in Diepsloot and other parts of the country has come under the spotlight following the recent spate of gender-based violence  and child murders. As such the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, will tomorrow host an Orange Day Campaign aimed at engaging the community on issues of responsible parenting and how to tackle gender-based violence.

The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 25 March 2014
Time: 10h30
Venue: St Mungo’s Church, Diepsloot

NB: The Secretary-General of the United Nations championed the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign and proclaimed the 25th of every month as Orange Day.

The first in a series of Orange Days was launched on 25 July 2012. This was initiated and led by the UNiTE campaign Global Youth Network. The action strives to highlight the issue of violence against women and girls, not only once a year, on 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), but on the 25th of every month.

Orange Day aims to spark worldwide interest and conversation, highlight the fact that violence against women and girls is a violation of human  rights and call for its eradication without reservation, equivocation or delay. Symbolic of this campaign is a call to action and for all citizens also to  wear Orange t-shirts or item on the day. This is a call for collectivism and activism to eradicate Gender Based Violence.
