The certificate issued to South African Boerboel Breeders Association (SABBA) is still suspended

The Boerboel owners and breeders are hereby notified that: The certificate issued to South African Boerboel Breeders Association (SABBA) is still suspended. The application of SABBA to apply for a court ruling regarding the Registrar of Animal Improvement Act 1998’s authority to suspend the certificate issued to them was received. It should however be noted that:

  1. To the Registrar’s knowledge, not all parties listed as co-respondents to the application were served with the documents.
  2. A request was received from SABBS/SABT to settle the matter out of Court. The request is under consideration by the legal representative for the State.

As the SABBA’s certificate is suspended, the status of the entire current Breed and Breeders’ Associations is currently seen as equal by the department. The process to develop a negotiated proposed Constitution for a single Boerboel Breed organisation is proceeding with Boerboel International, the Elite Boerboel Breed Association of Southern Africa and the Boerboel Clubs associated with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa as participants. A further version of the previous document will soon be released.

All breeders should take notice that all Boerboels being exported must first receive permission from the Registrar’s office for all such exports. All dogs marketed as Boerboels must be granted such permission.

To claim, after marketing and exporting a dog as a Boerboel, that the dog was not registered or should be considered as a cross breed, AFTER THE FACT, will not be tolerated and action will be taken against such breeders and the Registry or Club they belong to.

Until a definition of Genetic Superiority for the Boerboel Breed as required in terms of the Animal Improvement Act, 1998 for all Boerboels and Boerboel genetic material to be exported or imported is agreed upon to the satisfaction of the Registrar’s office, the Registrar reserves the sole right to determine standards for the import and export of all such materials.

No Registering Authority has to date been granted permission (or been allocated a Breed Code) to capture the detail of Genetically Superior animals of the Boerboel Breed on the Central Database (INTERGIS) as utilised in terms of the ACT.

Notice was taken of recent publications depicting dogs as Boerboels on which no clarity regarding their acceptance in the Breed has been reached yet. The matter is under investigation.
