Authorities working together to solve hijacking and murder

We are deeply saddened by the murder of a British tourist, shortly after the vehicle she and her husband were being driven in, was hijacked in NY1 last night. He was pushed from the vehicle and survived the ordeal. The couple, who arrived in South Africa on Friday, was on honeymoon and travelling back from a function in Somerset West.

Alan Winde: "The fact that there has not been a major incident since the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is no consolation."

Alan Winde: "I have immediately mobilised the tourism support team and we are giving this gentleman all the support we can. Trauma counselling, accommodation and communication with the British Embassy have been arranged."

Albert Fritz: "As MEC of Community Safety, my concern is for the safety of all people in this province, both locals and visitors alike. I have just been informed of another hijacking involving a local couple, and I have instructed police to mobilise every available resource to bring about speedy arrests."

Albert Fritz: "I am also appealing to the community to come forward with information. This could have happened to any of our loved ones and it is important that communities become involved in doing the right thing."
