The Free State department of health has contracted the services of NGOs to offer Community Health services. These partnership had undergo the selection of eligible community health workers within departmental database.
The progress made till to date is, 747 candidates who met requirements was identified according to criteria set out in the tender document. All candidates obtained their matric certificates.
The department will be conducting interviews for all 747 selected candidates on the first week of September 2014. After completion of interview process, placement will be done in various local areas. The Regional Training Centre will train all 747 as Community Health Workers to add to the initial 600 trained before. The 747 will be trained in a phase-in process. This initiative will assist and support department Primary Health Care Re-engineering Family Health teams who are to be supported by trained and qualified Community Health Care Workers.
