Mr Seiso Mohai was appointed as Deputy Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation from 3 July 2024.
His initial career in Parliament lasted from 1999 to 2002, and he returned in 2013. His long-standing commitment to legislative work reflects his dedication to public service and his deep understanding of the political landscape.
Mr Mohai's political journey is marked by significant leadership roles within the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) and the ANC. From 1991 to 1994, he served as the Chairperson of the Southern Free State ANCYL, followed by a term as Chairperson of the Free State ANCYL from 1996 to 1998. His influence within the ANCYL extended to the national level when he became a member of the ANCYL National Executive Committee from 1998 to 2001. His leadership was further recognised through his role as an Ex Officio Member of the Free State Provincial Executive Committee from 2001 to 2013. From 2014 to 2019, Mr Mohai was the Chairperson of the ANC Caucus in Parliament, showcasing his leadership within the legislative branch.
He has a strong academic background, with an emphasis on technology and management. He holds a Master of Science degree in Technology and Management from the Davinci Business School and a postgraduate Diploma in Management of Technology and Innovation from the same institution. This educational foundation has equipped him with the skills necessary to navigate complex policy issues and drive innovation in governance.
Mr Mohai’s interests – including sports, particularly soccer, reading and politics – not only reflect his personal passions but also align with his professional endeavours and commitment to public service.
Throughout his parliamentary career, he has served on several key committees. These include the portfolio committees on Education, Communications, and the Public Service and Administration. He has also held leadership roles such as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Appropriations and Co-Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament. Additionally, he has been a member of the Select Committee on Finance and served as Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces.
