Mr Mluleki Editor George served as a Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of South Africa from 29 April 2004 until 25 September 2008 and he was member of Parliament in the National Assembly from 1994 until 25 September 2008.

 

Academic Qualifications

Mr George passed 9 courses at Bachelor of Arts degree with University of South Africa (UNISA) and passed 7 courses at Bachelor of Commerce with Rhodes University. He matriculated at Nathaniel Nyaluza High School in Grahamstown.

 

Career/Positions/Memberships/Other Activities

Mr George joined the Africa National Congress (ANC) in 1972 before he was employed by Ciskei Government as Procurement Officer during the period 1972 until 1978.

He was Secretary of KADRU in 1973 and President of Border Rugby Union until his arrest in 1976 and sentenced to five years in Robben Island in 1978.

Mr George worked as a manager at Kei Brick from 1983 until 1990 and he served as President of King Central and Districts from 1984 to 1986; as President of UDF Border Region in 1986; and as President of Rugby Union with Border South African Rugby Board from 1986 to 1991.

Mr George was a founder member of United Democratic Front (UDF) in 1983; founder member of National Sports Council in 1988 and a founder and executive member of National Olympic Committee of South Africa in 1989. He was also Executive member of SACP Border Region in 1990; a Director Human Resources, Kei Brick from 1990 to 1994; President of National Sports Council and United Border Rugby Union from 1991 to 2001 and a Vice President of South African Rugby Football Union (SARFU) from 1993 until 1998.

He was also a member of the International Rugby Board from 1994 to 1997; an Alternate member of Portfolio Committees on Minerals and Energy, Correctional Services and Intelligence from 1994 to 1999; a Chairperson of ANC East London/King Williams Town Region from 1996 until 1999 and as a Chairperson of Parliamentary Portfolio Committee of Safety and Security from 1999 to 2004.

Mr George was appointed as Board member of South African Rugby Union in 2003; ANC NEC Member of International Relations Sub-Committee (IRSC) in 2004 and he became a Secretary of Methodist Church of Southern Africa Young Men's Guild Mt. Coke Circuit since 2004 and also served as a Chairperson of the ANC Amathole Region, KWT since 2005.
