Adv du Toit became the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs of the Republic of South Africa from 17 June 1999 until 10 May 2009. He also served as a member of Parliament in 1994 and a member of the African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) in North West Province.
Academic Qualifications
Adv Dirk Cornelis du Toit holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and LLB degree; from University of the Orange Free State (UOFS) 1968 and Iur. Drs (Leiden) in 1971. He matriculated from Boshof High School in 1961.
Career/Positions/Memberships/Other Activities
Adv du Toit was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1969; and Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1970.
He was a Lecturer at the then University of Orange Free State (UOFS) in 1970 and headed the Department of Constitutional Law and Philosophy of Law at UOFS in 1973 and became a Professor of Law in 1975.
He was an editor for various academic journals and he was a Legal advisor of National Educational Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) in 1992. He also served as Assistant Secretary of the Executive Council of the then Southern-Orange Free State Region of the African National Congress (ANC) between the period 1992 and 1994.
He also served as a member of the Bloemfontein Central Branch of the ANC and he was deployed in the Central West Region. He was an Author of several research articles and papers.
In 1994 he was elected to National Assembly and became a member of Parliament and re-elected to Parliament again in 1999 and 2004 where he was a Chairperson of Theme Committee 3 and Constitutional Assembly and he intimately involved in drafting of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa in 1996.
