Thusong Service Week 2017

Theme:  “The Year of OR Tambo” – Advancing Small Medium and Micro Enterprises at Thusong Service Centres"

The 2017 Annual Thusong Week will be celebrated in line with the Public Service month reflecting on the Batho Pele Policy which was developed 20 years ago aimed at ensuring equitable and responsive public sector and the commemoration. The adopted theme for the 2017 Public Service Month is “Together Moving the Public Service Forward: We Belong, We Care, We Serve”. The programme for the Public Service Month will provide the opportunity for national, provincial and local spheres of government to ensure aligned integrated service delivery improvement interventions and initiatives through enhanced Batho Pele and Service Charter Programme towards an Effective, Efficient and Development Oriented Quality Public Service to all.

Thusong Service Centres are one-stop centres providing integrated services and information from government and other civil society groups, to communities close to where they live as part of a comprehensive strategy to better their lives. 197 Centres now exist all across South Africa. The Annual Thusong Week is taking place while South African is celebrating the centenary of the birth of Oliver Reginald Tambo. The centenary celebration will be used to draw lessons from his life and understand the qualities that made him succeed. Futhermore, other campaigns taking place during the month of September include the Heritage month which the Thusong in-week activities will be incorporated with its activities and Tourism month.

Objective of the Annual Thusong Week

  • To promote the Thusong Programme by showcasing the integrated mobile outreach programme and its effectiveness in responding to the needs of the citizens.
  • To maintain key stakeholder relations with government departments and encouraged full participation in support of the Thusong programme for the benefit of citizens.
  • Unlocking the potential of SMMEs, cooperatives, and rural enterprises at Thusong Centres, as per the Nine Point Plan of Government.
  • To promote and profile SMME’s established at Thusong Service Centre countrywide by showcasing the work they do in developing themselves and their communities.
  • Reflect on the Batho Pele Policy aimed at ensuring equitable and responsive public sector and the commemoration of Heritage month in celebrating the South African heritage.
