  • Cycling: Mountain Bike: Cross-country: Alan Hatherly finishes in 42nd place, James Reid finishes in 26th place
  • Men's marathon: Lusapho April finishes in 24th place, Sibusiso Mzima finishes in 97th place, Lungile Gongqa is one of 15 of the 155 athletes that did not finish the race.
  • Athletics: Men’s 5000m final: Elroy Gelant finishes in 13th place.
  • Athletics: Women’s 800m final: Caster Semenya wins the race and the gold medal.

20 Aug:

  • Triathlon: Women’s race: Mari Rabie finishes in 11th place, Gillian Sanders finishes in 23rd place.
  • Golf: Women's Individual Stroke Play: Round 4: Paula Reto finishes in 16th place, Ashleigh Simon finishes on +12 in 50th place.

19 Aug:

  • Athletics: Women's 20km Walk: Anel Oosthuizen finished in 63rd place with 11 of the 74 athletes not completing the race.
  • Athletics: Men's 50km Walk: Marc Mundell finished in 38th place with 31 of the 80 athletes not completing the race.
  • Golf: Women's Individual Stroke Play: Round 3: Paula Reto on -4 tied in 8th place, Ashleigh Simon on +8 tied in 47th.
  • Athletics Women's 800m: Semi-final: Caster Semenya wins her semi-final and is through to the final.
  • Athletics Women's javelin throw: Final: Sunette Viljoen wins silver medal with a throw of 64.92m

18 Aug:

  • Cycling: Men's BMX quarterfinal: Kyle Dodd: Just misses out on the semifinals as he scores 4, 5 and 5 in his three runs.
  • Triathlon: Men's race: Richard Murray finishes in 4th place and Henri Schoeman finishes in 3rd place winning the bronze medal
  • Canoe sprint: Women’s kayak single 500m: B final: Bridgitte Hartley finishes in 8th place
  • Golf: Women's Individual Stroke Play: Round 2: Paula Reto -4 tied in 11th place, Ashleigh Simon on -2 tied in 22nd place
  • Athletics Men's Decathlon: Day 1: Willem Coertzen: runs 100m in 11.12 = 834 points; jumps 6.98 in long jump = 809 points; puts 14.00m in shot put = 728 points; retires injured.
  • Athletics Men's Javelin throw: Qualifying: Rocco van Rooyen throws his season's best with 85.39m but it is not enough to put him through to the finals.

  • Athletics Women's 800m Round 1: Caster Semenya wins her heat and proresses to the semi-finals.
  • Athletics Men's 5000m Round 1: Elroy Gelant finishes 7th in his heat in 13:22.00 and qualifies as one of the next 5 fastest for the final.
  • Canoe sprint: Women’s kayak single 500m: Bridgitte Hartley finishes 3rd in her heat and qualifies for the semi-finals; in the semi-finals she finishes 5th and qualifies for the B final.

  • Athletics: Women’s 400m Round 1: Tsholofelo Thipe 4th in her heat, Justine Palframan 7th in her heat and miss out on the semi-finals.
  • Golf: Men’s Individual Stroke Play: Round 3: Brandon Stone on evan par (tied in 26th place), Jaco van Zyl on -1 (tied in 20th place)
  • Swimming: Men’s 50m Freestyle: Final: Bradley Tandy finishes 8th in 21.80.

  • Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Qualifying: Ryan Patterson - floor 14.300, pommel horse 13.033, rings 13.333, vault 13.733, parallel bars 13.000, horizontal bars 13.291
  • Swimming: 400m Individual Medley heats: Sebastien Rousseau 21st and Michael Meyer 17th overall and missing the final.
  • Swimming: 400m freestyle heats: Myles Brown 12 th overall missing the final
  • Swimming: 100m breaststroke heats: Cameron van der Burgh through to semifinals on 7 Aug
  • Cycling: Men’s Road Race: Daryl Impey support enabled Louis Meintjes to finish 7th.
  • Football: Women: Banyana Banyana lost 0-2 to China in their 2nd Group E match.
  • Swimming: Cameron van der Burgh qualified for the final in the 3rd position.

5 Aug: Wayde van Niekerk carried the flag for South Africa at the opening ceremony

4 Aug: Football: Bafana Bafana draws 0-0 against Brazil in their first Group A match.

3 Aug: Football: Women: Banyana Banyana lost 0-1 to Sweden in their first Group E match.
