Government announces arrangements for funeral of Mendi Msimang

Media statement on the arrangements for the special official funeral of the late Mr Mendi Msimang

Condolences

The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on State Funerals under the leadership of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma met today to discuss arrangements for the Special Official Funeral of Mr Mendi Msimang who passed away on Monday, 03 December 2018.

Mr Msimang was a struggle stalwart and a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded Mr Msimang a Special Official Funeral Category 1, which entails elements of military ceremonial honours in line with the policy on State and Provincial official funerals.

All protocols related to Category 1 Official Funeral are being followed.  The flags of the country are currently flying at half-mast in all government buildings.

The IMC would like to inform South Africans and the world that the funeral service will be held as follows:

Date: Saturday, 08 December 2018
Time: 08h00
Venue: Christian Revival Church (CRC), Corner Lynnwood and Solomon Mahlangu Rd, Pretoria

The funeral service is open to the public to attend. Mourners  who would like to send messages of condolence to the family and are advised to make use of condolence books placed at the following points:

  • Union Buildings
  • Parliament
  • Embassies abroad
  • Department of International Relations and Cooperation
     

The IMC thanks South Africans and the international community for their support and messages of comfort to the Msimang family and friends.
