sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sport co-operation

Sport and Recreation Minister, Dr Makhenkesi Stofile and HE Mr Wang Jun,
Vice-Minister of General Administration of Sport (GASC) and Vice President of
Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sport
co-operation, on behalf of the Republic of South Africa and the People's
Republic of China in Pretoria today.
The signing of the memorandum between the two countries is intended to
promote and strengthen friendly bilateral relations and co-operation in the
field of sport and to encourage and further develop amicable relations through
the exchange of sport programmes, at both development and high performance
levels. The signing of the memorandum is aimed at benefiting the people of both
countries.
The memorandum calls for the two parties to encourage the establishment of
contact and co-operation between government institutions, non-government
organisations and persons in their respective countries, in the field of sport.
Their co-operation will amongst others, be through the exchange of information
and experts, in the areas of sport and recreation such as coaching and
administration, the exchange of teaching materials on sport and recreation, the
exchange of information on sports development and training systems,
collaboration in the area of sports information and scientific services and
interaction through meetings, conferences and symposia.
The parties shall also co-operate in areas including but not limited to
training of individuals as well as teams, competing in sport, information and
research; sports science, training of coaches, curriculum development and
sports education, sports management, facility development and management and
sports technology, infrastructure and programmes.
HE Mr Wang Jun led a six person Chinese delegation. The delegation is in
South Africa until 6 August for matters relating to sport and is made of the
