Parliament pays respect to deceased Free State Speaker Sisi Mabe

Parliament notes with sadness, the untimely passing of Free State Speaker, Hon Sisi Mabe.

Speaker Mabe served the country faithfully in a variety of portfolios including that of MEC for Public Works and Rural Development in the Free State and prior to that, MEC for Health also in the Free State. She died yesterday after being ill, while serving in her recently appointed position of Free State Speaker.

Hon Mabe, a teacher by profession, obtained her Honours degree in Leadership and Management and a Masters in policy Studies and Governance from the University of the Free State.

Mabe was a member of the Free State Legislature, one of the special delegates to the National Council of Provinces, and served on the Provincial Judicial Committee and the Magistrates Commission. She also served as a member of the Local Government and Housing Portfolio Committee.

The Parliament of the Republic of South Africa sends heartfelt condolences to all her family, friends and colleagues and wishes her family peace and strength at this time as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
