Parliament on Limpopo Community Projects

Community projects impress committee

The Portfolio Committee on Social Development is impressed by the work done and management of finances at Makotse Women’s Club in Makotse Village outside Lebowakgomo and Raseko Poultry Secondary Cooperative, an amalgamation of small cooperatives from three villages including Ramoshoana, Seopa and Kordon in Limpopo. These two projects were established to create jobs and alleviate poverty and are funded by both National Development Agency (NDA) and the Department of Social Development (DSD).

The Committee visited them yesterday as part of its oversight work in order to assess the work of the Department of Social Development. Upon arrival at Makotse Women’s Club Committee Chairperson, Ms Zoleka Capa, reiterated that the good work that is done by project management is commendable.  She thanked DSD together with NDA for availing resources. The Makose Women’s Club project is involved in a number of activities including drop-in centre, vegetable garden, cultural preservation project and bakery.

Ms Capa also complimented the management at Raseko Poultry Secondary Cooperative. She said their work was impressive and above board. The cooperative project is involved in the work of chicken farming, egg harvesting and vegetable garden.

The Committee is visiting Limpopo as part of its two-day oversight work that was initially planned for five days, but had to be cut short due to the National Assembly sitting tomorrow, 27 November 2014. It will wrap up its work today by visiting the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices in Giyani, Mopani region.
