The provincial Department of Finance hosted about 300 people living with disabilities and aspiring entrepreneurs to share with them information on business tendering with government at the Vez’ubuhle community hall on Tuesday.
With the aim to develop and improve the lives of many unemployed disabled persons in the province, the department invited stakeholders such like the Small Enterprise Development Agency, the Department of Public Service and Administration and financial institutions to shed light with the public.
General manager in the provincial Treasury Mr. Junior Mbatha graced the remarkable impact the event has had to the local people and how it planned to change their lives for the better.
"This is a very big step in creating awareness about the opportunities that exist for cooperatives and small business enterprises in the province. The event seeks to give more detailed information to everyone and in particular persons living with disabilities so that they may participate in business," said Mbatha.
The event was coordinated by the department's supply chain management with the main objective of implementing a collective consensus on the kind of society the nation want to see by 2030.
Guided by Mr. Robert Masambo, the unit has a vision to ensure full recognition that all people living with disability have access to and are given opportunities you contribute to ongoing democratization projects of building a prosperous and united province.
"The launch and programme for the disability Month gives impetus to the commitment to implore all South Africans to make a change in their areas of influence. This in order to accommodate people living with disabilities to affirm their status as equal members of society," said Masambo.
Masambo emphasized that it is part of their responsibility to widen access to equality in all the areas of development, including for the people living with disability whose participation in tendering activities is uncommon.
