North West province aims to be the hub for Golf Tourism
The North West Department of Tourism will strive to put in place systems which will assist in creating a conducive and enabling environment for the province to be strategically positioned as the hub of Golf Tourism.
This was evident when MEC Desbo Mohono hosted the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Tokozile Xasa during the Promotion of Golf Tourism: Golf Challenge which was held at the Leopard Park Golf Club in Mahikeng. The Golf Challenge was a partnership between the National and Provincial departments of Tourism together with the Khaya Cool International Radio.com.
Speaking at the Golf Challenge, MEC Mohono said that the province has always held Golf in high regard because it is one of the sporting codes which can be used attract possible investors into our province.
“Most of the huge deals are made on the Golf Course, this says to us that if we make Golf a huge success in this province we will have people with the means to invest wanting to visit and spend time in our province. This will eventually lead to investments pouring in. This initiative will go a long way in strategically positioning the province as a hub for Golf Tourism”, she said
To reiterate the MEC and put emphasis on the province’s potential of becoming the Golf hub of South Africa, the Tourism Deputy Minister said that the province has proven itself in the past by hosting some of the major Golf Challenges.
“The North West is fast becoming a “Golf province”. Few weeks ago we attended the Nedbank Golf Challenge held in Sun City and now we are in the capital, Mahikeng for the Golf Tourism Challenge. This to me says that the North West province is steadily but surely becoming a “Golf province”, she said.
To date, the North West province has successfully hosted two of the major annual golf challenges in the history of this sporting code. The Gary Player invitational and the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
