North West Legislature Portfolio Committee on Community Safety Welcomes SIU Probe into Public Works Department
The North West Provincial Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads, Community Safety and Transport Management led by Hon. Onicca Medupe has welcomed the Special Investigative Unit's probe into the Department of Public Works and Roads on probing allegations of corruption and maldministration dating back from January 2016 to 15 March 2021 as per President Cyril Ramaphosa's proclamation. The proclamation also issued probe into malpractice and transactions from the stipulated dates.
According to the SIU report, the entity will focus on procurements processes relating to installation of the parameter fence at Eagle Water Wild Life Resort; project management for the transport infrastructure office in the department and procurement of the rehabilitation of flood damage to road infrastructure.
Hon. Medupe said the Committee is pleased with the state entity's probe into the department. "This is a step in the right direction to show that our President is serious about fighting corruption and maladministration. The law must take its course," said Hon. Medupe.
