The Chief of the South African National Defence Force is saddened by news of the sudden passing of the Warrant Officer of the South African Military Health Service
The Chief of the South African National Defence Force (C SANDF), General Solly Shoke has received with shock, the sad news of the sudden passing of the Warrant Officer of the South African Military Health Services, Senior Chief Warrant Officer (SCWO) Virginia Sebone (59) after a short illness in the afternoon of Wednesday, 09 September 2020 at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria.
SCWO Sebone Joined the SANDF in 1995 with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was based at Area Military Health Unit Gauteng and worked at various South African Military Health Service (SAMHS) units including, Northern Cape and 7 Medical Battalion Group. In 2000 she was transferred to SAMHS Headquarters as a Chief Clerk at the Surgeon General’s office.
In 2001 she was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 and was later promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 and appointed as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at the Institute for Aviation Medicine. In 2007 SCWO Sebone was appointed as Chief Warrant Officer at Military Health Support Formation.
In September 2012, SCWO Sebone was appointed as the SAMHS Senior Chief Warrant Officer, a position that she was holding when she met her sudden passing on Wednesday, 09 September 2020.
The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr Thabang Makwetla, the Secretary for Defence, Ambassador (Ms) Sonto Kudjoe, C SANDF, General Solly Shoke and the Surgeon General of the SANDF, Lieutenant General Zola Dabula, express their heartfelt condolences to SCWO Sebone’s family, colleagues and friends. May her soul Rest in Peace.
