Klerksdorp Labour Centre temporarily closed due to COVID-19 case
The Department of Employment and Labour in the North West has recorded its first confirmed case of COVID-19. This has led to temporary closure of the Klerksdorp Labour Centre in order to allow employees who may have been in contact with the affected employee to self-isolate and for the necessary cleaning protocols for the office to be carried out.
According to Andile Makapela the Chief Director: Provincial Operations in the North West, the affected employee is one of the officials who are working from home but have access to the office in order to get documents to enable them to perform their duties. “All the necessary protocols as advised are being followed to ensure that the virus does not spread. We have also notified the Department of Health to allow tracking and tracing.” said Makapela.
Makapela said the Department will ensure that the affected employee receives the necessary support, a statement which was reiterated by the Department’s Director-General: Thobile Lamati, who said the safety of staff remain paramount. “Our officials are an important cog of the working of the South African economy and as such, we will also ensure that they are as safe as possible,” said Lamati.
An announcement would be made with regard to the opening of the office, which is expected to be some time next week. Clients are encouraged to use the Department’s online services found on www.labour.gov.za.
