The 8th National Imbizo Focus Week is held under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward”. It will see political principals from all three spheres of government interacting one on one with communities in different parts of the country.
The Imbizo is an opportunity to engage the public on the implementation of government’s Programme of Action to help improve people’s lives. Ministers and Deputy Ministers, including civil servants will also use it to update the public on concrete steps that have been taken to implement the National Development Plan (NDP).
This year’s Imbizo takes place during the year in which we celebrate the centenary of former President Nelson Rholihlahla and Nontsikelelo Albertina Sisulu. The centenary is an opportunity to honour Madiba’s exemplary leadership that inspired all political parties to work together to build a democracy we continue to enjoy. We remember his long walk to freedom and sacrifices he made since he dedicated his life to fight for freedom and democracy.
The centenary will also encourage South Africans to live up to the values of Madiba and help build a country we envisaged in the NDP.
To help keep our democracy strong, Imbizo will also be used to urge eligible voters across the county to visit their nearest voting stations to update the voters’ roll in preparation for the 2019 general elections.
