KZN COGTA condemns DA’s hypocrisy in rejecting development
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has condemned the hypocritical attitude shown today in the provincial legislature by the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) which voted against budget allocations to develop and upgrade small towns and electricity supplement programmes within the province.
This happen today during the debate on the passing of the Adjustment Bill 2014, tabled by the Provincial Treasury, KZN Cogta has secured the additional allocation of R85-million towards the Small Town Rehabilitation Programme from the Provincial Treasury which is otherwise looking for ways to cut down government expenditure as evidenced by today’s adjustments estimates passed by the provincial legislature.
“The conduct of the DA has confirmed what we have always been saying that the DA is an enemy of societal development and the real enemies of progress. Their only agenda contrary to what they propagate in public is to wage a counter-revolution to delay programmes aimed at rejuvenating the economies of communities in rural based towns and to frustrate fundamental reconstruction and development in our country. This hypocrisy on the part of the DA has been exposed today in broad daylight,” said Dube-Ncube.
“On the one hand, the DA remains a staunch critic of our government claiming that we do not do enough to develop small towns or provide basic services such as water and electricity while on the other hand, it frustrates our efforts in doing so by voting against increased budgets for this purpose,” said KZN Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
“This additional allocation is proof of the past successes of our Small Town Rehabilitation Programme which has transformed dozens of small towns across KZN over the past few years, spurring economic development and bringing infrastructure and job creation to many previously disadvantaged communities,” said Dube-Ncube.
“The DA has acted in absolutely bad faith and has betrayed the trust of many communities who want to see improvements and electricity upgrades in their small towns. We have refused to be frustrated by the backward elements such as the DA and as the majority we voted in favour of the bill” said MEC Dube-Ncube.
“This has to be a clearest sign to all that the DA is in the legislature to ensure that all the work done or being to fundamentally transform both the economy as well as our human habitat is reversed in favour of the DA's ideology of defending and advancing privileges of the affluent”. added Dube-Ncube.
KZN Cogta is pleased to have received additional funding for the delivery of basic services such as water and electricity which the provincial government has declared as one of its priorities as it strives to unleash the economic potential of the province by providing basic infrastructure for economic development through private investment.
