Water and Sanitation refutes fake news about dam closures in Western Cape

The National Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) was alerted to disturbing alleged social media posts about the closures of Berg River and Franschhoek Dams in the Western Cape today. According to a social media alert, the dams closures might be caused by poison on the dams.

DWS refutes such as fake news and wishes to state categorically that that there are no dams closed in the Western Cape.

Sputnik Ratau, DWS National Spokesperson says the public will always be notified via formal channels if a water works, including a dam, is closed. “As DWS we wish to remind citizens that spreading fake news or disinformation is a punishable offence,” says Ratau
