17 February 2009

The investigation of allegations of fraud, corruptions and financial
irregularities related to the contract entered by Ngaka Modiri Molema district
municipality with a Brazilian Soccer Academy for the training of youngsters
over 18 months will be completed by the end of March 2009, North West MEC for
Developmental Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa assured councillors of
the municipality at a special council meeting held on Tuesday.

MEC Yawa appealed to all stakeholders within the municipality to give the
team of experts from National Treasury and the Office of the Auditor General
and other state agencies appointed to conduct the investigation the necessary
co-operation in order to expedite the process. He urged parties within the
municipality to make use of labour forums within the institution to speedily
resolve the labour dispute that has entered its fourth week and resulted in the
lockout and suspension of 165 municipal employees affiliated to the South
African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU).

"My department is anxious of the extent to which the impasse might
compromise service delivery and appeal for leadership to prevail for the
benefit of our communities" says Yawa.
