Western Cape Public Works on Women's Property Management
initiative

Women's Property Management initiative launched

21 November 2006

James Slabbert introduces the newly formed property evaluation committee.
The committee members are Derrick Mbindwane, Chantal Mentoor and Zohra
Ebrahim.

An initiative to empower women in the property industry was launched
recently at the Cape Town Lodge by MEC of Transport and Public Works Marius
Fransman and the Property Management team. MEC Fransman underlined the fact
that the property sector is a vibrant and growing sector that needs to be
changed to enable black women to participate in it without stumbling blocks and
handicaps. The MEC also mentioned that the patterns of property leasing will
change in the near future.

"We will have to look at the disposal policy to redress the imbalances of
the past. We need women to become developers and facilitators in the property
industry," he said. A land audit will be done and various properties will be
disposed of to target the involvement of women.

According to James Slabbert, Head of Property Management, five properties in
the George, Strand, Milnerton and Franchhoek areas will be advertised for
disposal shortly.
