Management Development Institutes Network (AMDIN)
Background
The Executive Council of the African Management Development Institute
Network (AMDIN) held its extraordinary 2nd sitting from 24 to 25 July 2006 at
Burgers Park Hotel, Pretoria. AMDIN was established as part of the
recommendations of the 3rd Pan African Ministers of Public Service and
Administration Conference, and was subsequently launched on 24 and 25 August
2005 by Management Development Institutes (MDIs) from across the Continent in
Johannesburg, South Africa. The main purpose of this Executive Council sitting
was to discuss programmes and methodologies that will spur this continental
body into full operation. Members who constitute the Executive Council comprise
elected Heads of MDIs from across the continent.
AMDIN aims to provide a credible platform for MDIs on the continent to share
experiences and collaborate on governance and administration matters pertinent
to the development of the African continent and its public sector institutions.
As such, this initiative is inextricably linked to the New Partnership for
Africaâs Development (NEPAD) Programme on Governance and Public
Administration.
Achievements of the meeting
* The meeting discussed and finalised the AMDIN Operational and
Implementation Plan with explicit milestones and deadlines. The implementation
of some of the programmes takes root with immediate effect with the support of
SAMDI as the interim secretariat of AMDIN.
* The meeting held fruitful discussions on Governance issues, including
strategies to be employed in the mobilisation of financial and human resources
to support the implementation process. AMDIN is to be registered as a
continental, non-profit organisation.
* Central to the full operation of the Network is that the meeting was able to
identify common, practical and relevant programmes to be rolled out by AMDIN
with a view to assisting the capacity building efforts of MDIs on the
Continent.
* Further, AMDIN will collaborate with similar and structures and institutions
on the Continent in the implementation of its programmes to ensure maximum
impact.
* Lastly, two standing committees, namely, the Committees on Finance and
Administration and on Programmes were established. Both committees are
represented by various participating MDIs from across the Continent.
