S Ndebele on death of M Tsedu's son A Netshisaulu

Message from Mr Sibusiso Ndebele to City Press Editor Mathatha
Tsedu and family on the passing of his son Avhatakali Netshisaulu

8 December 2006

It was with a deep sense of regret that we learnt of the tragic passing of
Mr Avhatakali Netshisaulu, the son of City Press editor Mathatha Tsedu.

We understand that Avhatakali's charred body was discovered in his car
outside Johannesburg following what is a suspected hijacking. The tragic
circumstances behind Avhatakali's death make his passing even more unbearable,
but it is the loss of yet another life that we also find deplorable.

Avhatakali's death reminds us all of the unpredictability of life and how in
a single moment this precious gift could be taken away. It also tragically
reminds us of the depths to which some of the elements in our society
steep.

The loss of a loved one is a very painful thing, but to lose one to greed is
devastating. Crimes like these eat away at the moral fibre of our society. We
have no doubt that the police will leave no stone unturned in a bid to
establish the true facts behind this senseless loss of life.

On behalf of the people of KwaZulu-Natal we would like to express our
sincere condolences to Mr Mathatha Tsedu and his family.
