Consumers to be workshopped on legal matters

4 September 2007

Consumers often do not react quickly to summons and some do not know what to
do when they receive summons. Some of the consumers still do not understand the
implications of the new National Credit Act.

This finding follows the workshops that were conducted by the Department of
Economic Development and Tourism during the Consumer Month in March 2007 to
address garnishee orders. As a result, the department's Governance and
Regulatory Services Directorate will host a follow up workshop as follows:

Date: Friday, 7 September 2007
Time: 09h00
Venue: Mafikeng Hotel School

The objective of the workshop is to offer some street law advice to
consumers so that they will be able to know how to respond to legal
documents.

Consumers will also be advised on the pitfalls of buying second hand
vehicles. This is as a result of findings that many consumers have lost huge
sums of money as a result of their failure to take necessary precautions when
buying used vehicles.

The workshop will also focus on updating consumers on the implications of
the National Credit Act.

Members of the media are therefore invited to cover this informative
event.
