Women’s Prayer Day

28 August 2006

“Women leading the struggle for quality healthcare: yesterday, today,
tomorrow” as part of celebrating Women’s Month the KwaZulu-Natal(KZN)
Department of Health will on Tuesday, 29 August 2006 host a mass Women’s Prayer
Day. Through this prayer day the department will not only be acknowledging the
role played by women in the KZN Department of Health but it will also be a day
to pray for divine intervention and guidance over all the challenges facing
this department.

These include the high rate of many diseases in our province, the high rate
of sickness and health among our own staff as well as the highly taxing nature
of the work that staff members do everyday. The theme adopted for the day is,
“Women leading the struggle for quality health care: yesterday, today and
tomorrow”. The shortage of quality healthcare remains a universal challenge and
women are at the forefront of the struggle for quality health care.

On the 29th female staff members from all over the province as well as
members of the female clergy in the province will come together to acknowledge
the role played by women in the struggle for quality healthcare and also to
pray for all the ills plaguing health issues in the province. Over 1000 women
are expected to partake in this event and this will include 600 female
healthcare workers from all over the province. This will be done in a manner
that will ensure that health delivery is not compromised as well as 400 members
from the female clergy in the province.

Members of the media are invited to attend and report on this event.
