H Yawa delivers school in Merafong

North West MEC of Public Works H Yawa delivers R7,9 million
secondary school in Merafong

11 September 2006

North West Public Works MEC, Honourable Howard Yawa says that the delivery
of the R7,9 million Imfundo Secondary School in Kokosi township is a
celebration of the Age of Hope and the people’s contract for the people of
Merafong. He said this at the handover and official opening function for newly
built Secondary School in Kokosi Township near Fochville last Friday.

In his keynote speech, MEC Yawa said, “It’s a celebration of partnership
between government and communities for the confidence they have in the ANC
government to eradicate the apartheid legacy of inequalities, inherited
infrastructure backlogs and imbalances in infrastructure provision.”

MEC Yawa also condemned the theft of electricity cables experienced at the
school last year and called for united action against criminal elements in
Merafong. He appealed to the community to ensure that the school was protected
at all times and that it becomes the centre of community life.

Yawa urged learners at the school to resist the temptation to do drugs as
youth are targeted by drug dealers for addiction and destruction. He appealed
to them to abstain from drugs and to be young men and women of high moral
stamina, integrity, courage and vision.

The completion of the eighteen class roomed school has reduced classroom
shortage and overcrowding previously experienced by Thuto Kitso Secondary
School, which was the only secondary school serving the Kokosi community. The
school building project has given access to a modern, quality public school to
600 learners and 21 educators.

The new facility includes an administration block, a science laboratory, and
24 toilets.

The vibrant and colourful event was graced by among others Members of
Parliament (MPs), members of School Governing Bodies, senior government
officials and Councillors of the Merafong Local Municipality.

The Executive Mayor of Merafong Local Municipality, Councillor Desmond Van
Rooyen opened the school on behalf of the MEC for Education, Rev O J
Tselapedi.
