Arts and Culture warns about funding scam

Department of Arts and Culture warns organisations and members
of the public of a funding scam

12 September 2006

The Department of Arts and Culture would like to warn organisations and
members of the public of a funding scam, which involves individuals soliciting
funds from unsuspecting victims, using the logo of the national Department of
Arts and Culture. The individuals send letters to would-be victims claiming
that the Department has mistakenly transferred more money into their accounts
than supposed to and requesting them to refund the difference. Therefore, we
would like to urge organisations and members of the public to contact the
Department if they receive such claims. This matter was reported to the South
African Police Services (SAPS) for investigation.
