Positive Outlook for the Year Ahead – Deputy Speaker
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Lechesa Tsenoli, is encouraged by the good news of the release of the Cuban 5, and the stated intention by Cuba and the USA to bring some degree of normality to relations between the two countries.
In a recent interview he wished “the people of Cuba and the United States of America well, so that both countries live as equals in the community of nations.
It is particularly edifying that President Castro has acknowledged the important role that the world’s democratic parliaments have played in this process, including that of South Africa.”
The Deputy Speaker went on to wish for peace in the Middle East and in all other parts of the world, especially in the African continent, where disease and conflict bedevil the lives of many communities.
“We are faced with unacceptable levels of inequality, poverty and unemployment”, he said. “With the policies we have in place and the ones we are shaping, and the changes they will make, we are confident we will meet the challenges that the people have asked us to deal with.”
Deputy Speaker had this to share with fellow South Africans:
“Let’s close the year and look forward to the New Year determined to see to it that places in the world where there are conflicts raging, where there are disease outbreaks, that we can meet those challenges, and bring about peace where there is war, harmony where there is conflict; so that the poor of the world get to benefit from the progress that must be made, all with greater speed than has been the case to date.”
Deputy Speaker appealed to South Africans to commit themselves to change for the better in the New Year. “As people, in our assorted roles; let us combine to contribute to the resolution of these problems, so that the world can become a better place. Let’s welcome 2015 hoping for the best, not only for we South Africans, but for all on the continent and for all the world’s people.”
