The President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E Jacob Zuma, is scheduled to undertake a working visit to Conakry on 13 January 2015 following an invitation from the President of the Republic of Guinea, H.E Alpha Condé.
The main objective of this visit is to strengthen and deepen the existing and historical fraternal relations between South Africa and Guinea. It is expected that the visit will also give impetus to the current areas of socio-economic cooperation. The visit also provides an opportunity to assess bilateral cooperation and further commit to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Economic relations between the two countries are progressing well with substantial growth potential. Currently, companies from South Africa in Guinea include amongst others MTN, Ashanti Gold Mining, ALUFER Mining, WHBO, Africa Lotto Company, Global Outdoor Systems, Mosmart South Africa and African Rainbow Minerals (ARM).
New areas of cooperation, particularly in the field of infrastructure development, such as roads, housing, office buildings and communication system networks are being explored. The 1st and 2nd South Africa/Guinea Business Forums held in April 2013 and 2014 emphasised the importance of mining and agriculture.
South Africa is supporting Guinea with socio-economic developmental projects, such as the improvement of the production of rice and vegetables (to strengthen food security) and the sustainable management of solid waste in the City of Conakry (to strengthen health and sanitation).
The President will be supported by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, as part of his delegation.
