World Economic Forum on Africa 2017

The 27th World Economic Forum on Africa (WEF) will be held in Durban, South Africa, on the 3 to 5 May 2017. The WEF is hosted with the support of the Government of South Africa.

The purpose of the forum will be to convene leaders from across all stakeholder groups to define strategies and actions to restore the whole region on its path towards a sustainable, prosperous and inclusive future.

This year’s theme will focus on driving economic transformation in Africa through inclusive growth models.

Over 900 participants are expected at the World Economic Forum on Africa, including Forum member companies, representatives from government, international organisations, civil society, academia, media and the arts.

Also taking part will be leaders from Forum communities including the Global Shapers, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Young Global Leaders and Technology Pioneers.

The Co-Chairs of the World Economic on Africa are: Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director, Oxfam International; Siyabonga Gama, Group Chief Executive Officer, Transnet; Frédéric Lemoine, Chairman of the Executive Board, Wendel; Rich Lesser, Global Chief Executive Officer and President, Boston Consulting Group; and Ulrich Spiesshofer, President and Chief Executive Officer, ABB.

In addition to advancing the concept of inclusive growth, many other issues critical to Africa’s long-term development will be covered in the Meeting’s programme. These include: education, skills and employment; entrepreneurship; energy; infrastructure and development finance; combating, adapting to and building resilience against climate change; and science, technology and innovation.
