The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) will conduct a session of community conversations on 1 July 2016 at Malamulele in Limpopo. This session forms part of the planned community conversations that are scheduled to take place until 13 July 2016.
Nation Building and Social Cohesion Community conversations were officially launched by DAC in 2014 under the theme “Transforming Society, Uniting the Country”. The programme seeks to provide a platform for individuals and organisations from all sectors of society to engage on national plans to promote nation building and social cohesion, as well as to combat racism in South Africa.
During the 2014/15 financial year, the department conducted a series of community conversations in various provinces across the country to interrogate the state of South African affairs in terms of; rights and responsibilities, social cohesion and national identity, active citizenry and volunteerism. The key focus is on improving the relations within communities that could be strained along racial or ethnic lines and on probing the dynamics of troubled community relationships to better understand them and formulate appropriate remedies that are action-orientated.
The DAC will conduct community conversations in these areas with a quest to assist in bridging the divisions, mobilise community structures to work with government and to promote inclusive communities, social cohesion and nation building.
