MEC David Maynier tables the Western Cape Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, 6 De

Western Cape Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement and 2021 Municipal Review and Outlook (MERO) to be tabled in the provincial legislature

On Monday, 6 December 2021, the Western Cape Minister for Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier, will be tabling the Western Cape Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), 2021 Municipal Review and Outlook (MERO) and the 2021 Adjusted Estimates of Provincial Revenue and Expenditure in the provincial legislature.

The MTBPS outlines how resources will be allocated to sustain the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the Western Cape; to support “Jobs”, “Safety” and “Wellbeing”, the three “North Stars” of the Western Cape’s Recovery Plan.

In addition, the MTBPS will include details of the Western Cape Government’s plans to:

  • protect frontline services, including education, health and social development;
  • rebalance the composition of expenditure by increasing spending on infrastructure;
  • support effective, and clean local government;
  • significantly improve the efficiency of spending by driving value for money;
  • promote transparency of spending in procurement;
  • mitigate risks including drought, flooding; and
  • ensure the long-term fiscal sustainability of the Western Cape.
