The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe; Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) and GPL Staff will join in The People’s March Against Xenophobia tomorrow. GPL joins the rest of the country in condemning the ongoing xenophobic attacks in an effort to denounce violence and promote unity.
With the KZN and Gauteng Provinces being the most affected by the recent attacks, as Gauteng’s oversight body, GPL will tomorrow march alongside other social justice networks; trade unions; NGO’s; and corporate sectors. GPL vouches to recommit that SA is a non-discriminatory, compassionate, and welcoming country that is non-tolerant to discrimination of any kind. During the 2008 and last year’s xenophobic attacks in Gauteng, the Legislature took a stand and intervened through the Executive to bring an end to the violent attacks, it is in the same spirit that GPL continues to unite with all fellow African brothers and sisters in fighting these inhumane acts.

Gauteng Provincial Legislature MPLs will join 30 000 other protesters at the People’s March Against Xenophobia – We Are One. The march is an emergency coalition which includes the African Diaspora Forum (ADF), CoRMSA, faith-based organisations, major social movements; trade unions, as well as the organisations; SECTION27, Corruption Watch and Doctors Without Borders.
