renaming of Agisanang Primary School
20 January 2006
The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, will on Monday, 23 January
2006, at 12:00 deliver an address at the renaming of the Agisanang Primary
School in Garankuwa, North West Province.
The school has been renamed after television and radio personality, Tim Modise.
Modise through the Tim Modise Foundation adopted the Agisanang Primary School
of Zone 6 as the first school to be adopted under the Adopt-a-learner,
Adopt-a-school campaign.
In appreciation, the School Governing Body of Agisanang, in consultation with
the community of Garankuwa, decided to rename the school after Tim Modise. The
decision was approved by the North West Department of Education.
The Minister will also use the occasion to handover the âTorch of Peaceâ to the
MEC for Education in North West, Rev OJ Tselapedi. The Department of Transport,
the first recipient of the Torch of Peace as part of the Arrive Alive campaign,
passed on the torch to the Department of Education for the Safe Schools
campaign. The Deputy Minister, Mr Enver Surty, received the Torch during the
ceremony held at Dr F Ribeiro Primary School in Pretoria on 12 January
2006.
The âTorch of Peaceâ will circulate amongst MECs for Education, before Minister
Pandor hands over the Torch to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional
Development on 21 March 2006 to celebrate Human Rights Day.
The âTorch of Peaceâ forms a link between the 16 Days of Activism Campaign
and other major national campaigns that support the thematic programme that
underpins Governmentâs national outreach activities.
