South African Police Service on security for Vodacom Soccer
Challenge

Joint planning committee for security for the Vodacom Soccer
Challenge

24 July 2007

The South African Police Service (SAPS), in co-operation with other
departmental and external role players, is in the final stages of security
planning for the final match in the Vodacom Soccer Challenge at Loftus Versveld
on Saturday, 28 July 2007.

The planning committee is confident that the match can be secured by:

* establishing uncompromising security measures
* limiting the probability of critical incidents occurring
* limiting the impact of any possible critical incident through thorough
contingency planning.

However, support and co-operation by spectators plays a vital role in
achieving these objectives. During the planning phase, certain key issues,
which may impact on security on the day of the match, have emerged.

Spectators need to take cognisance of these key issues.

Tickets

* Spectators should purchase tickets from registered outlets only as there
is potential for counterfeit tickets to be sold to unsuspecting persons. There
will be no sale of tickets at the stadium.
* All tickets are numbered and spectators are urged to sit in seats according
to the ticket numbers. Marshals will be on duty to assist spectators with
seating.

Road Closures

* For the purpose of effective traffic management there will be road
closures around the stadium as from 06h00am on Saturday.
* Spectators approaching booms at the outer perimeter (traffic filtration
point) of the stadium in vehicles will not be allowed into the traffic
controlled zone if a passenger is not in possession of a ticket.
* We want to urge spectators to make use of the park and ride option which will
be available to all spectators , nine double-decker busses (three from each
point) will be commuting supporters from End Street (between Church and
Pretorius Streets), Pilditch Stadium (Maltzan Street) and the Pretoria Rugby
Club to the stadium and back.

Restricted Items

* Firearms, ammunition, dangerous or sharp/pointed metal objects which are
considered dangerous as well as alcohol and bottled beverages will not be
allowed in the stadium.
* Only accredited food vending will be allowed inside and outside the
stadium.
* Drunken spectators will not be allowed into the stadium in the interest of
their own safety and the safety of others.

Metro Rail

* Trains will be running every hour on match day to Loftus and to
accommodate the large volume of spectators returning home, Metro Rail will be
making special provision for its commuters after the match.
* There will also be parking facilities at railway stations for spectators
opting to travel by train to the stadium.

There will be high visibility of police officers both on foot and vehicle
patrols. The illegal sale of alcohol and unauthorised sale of food is strictly
prohibited.

May this beautiful game win at the end of the day.
